Bristol City Women to kick off Women's Super League campaign at Ashton Gate against Brighton & Hove Albion

Bristol City Women will open their Women's Super League campaign on the Ashton Gate turf.

The Robins will host Brighton & Hove Albion Women in their curtain-raiser on Saturday, September 7.

The match will be played at the club's home ground rather than the Stoke Gifford Stadium where the women's team usually ply their trade.

It will be the women's side's first game at Ashton Gate since 2017.

The fixture falls during the international break for the men's team so they will be out of action.

Bristol City manager Tanya Oxtoby said: “It’s fantastic that our season opener against Brighton is going to be played at Ashton Gate. I think this highlights the strong connectivity between the men and the women’s side of our club and I know the girls are really excited to be playing at such a brilliant stadium.

"We’d really love a big crowd to come out and support us, and we can put in a big performance to start the season with a win.”

Bristol City Women Chairman Mark Ashton added: “Naturally this is the next step in the development of the relationship between both City men and women.

“We believe this fixture can be another catalyst to propel women’s football in the South West forward, especially after such a successful Women’s World Cup, and we would urge City and football supporters in general to come down for what will be a great occasion.”

The announcement follows an impressive 2018/19 season in the FAWSL where City finished sixth with 25 points.

The fixture is a reverse of the 2018/19 season opener, which saw Bristol City Women come out on top 1-0 against Hope Powell’s Brighton at The People's Pension Stadium.

The match will get underway at 3pm and tickets are now available to purchase  here.
