Bristol City Women sign former Everton midfielder Olivia Chance

Bristol City Women have added a former Everton player to their ranks as they prepare for their Women's Super League curtain-raiser at Ashton Gate.

The Robins have signed New Zealand international Olivia Chance.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder makes the move to BS3 having spent three seasons with the Toffees on Merseyside.

Chance was a mainstay in the Football Ferns' midfield at the Women's World Cup during the summer, starting all three group games in France despite missing the majority of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Speaking after her move, she said: “I’m really excited to be involved with Bristol City. I’ve heard a lot of positive things from both players and coaches from around the world, so I’m looking forward to getting started.

“The club and team environment seems really positive, and Tanya seems to have brought a new level to Bristol City and she seems like a very good coach and I look forward to getting started under her.”

The City Women get their WSL campaign underway against Brighton at Ashton Gate on Saturday, September 7.

Chance added: "It’s the perfect way to start the season, in a stadium such as Ashton Gate. Hopefully we can get a big crowd, put on a good performance for them and get a win.

“Having the World Cup so recently is going to bring people to the game, and with the home Euros in 2021 it’s all positive for the women’s football and hopefully we can build on it.”
