Bristol City Women power through to Conti semi-finals after 2-1 win over Aston Villa Women

Bristol City Women grabbed a place in the FA Continental Cup semi-finals after they beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Twerton Park on Wednesday night.

Ebony Salmon scored a second half brace to see off the visitors from the Midlands, netting two goals shortly after half-time.

Benedicte Haaland, standing in for the injured Sophie Baggaley in goal, was also instrumental to the win as she pulled off a great save in the first half to deny Dianna Silva at close range.

And it was Haaland’s goal kick that was knocked forward by Charlie Wellings to send Salmon through one-on-one for the winning score, with the former Villa striker rounding the keeper to slot into an empty net.

That was three minutes after the same player had curled into the top corner of Sian Rogers' goal, following a lovely nutmeg of one of the Villa defenders.

The Robins had to withstand some late pressure and Nadine Larsen headed in to set up a nervy end to the game, but the home side held on.

Tanya Oxtoby’s side who are still without a win the league but in the cup things are very different.
