Bristol City Women make history with arrival of ex-Liverpool winger as third summer signing

Bristol City Women have continued their summer recruitment drive with the addition of England Under-19 international winger Simran Jhamat, who will become the first British South Asian to play for the club.

Jhamat becomes the Vixens third new arrival this summer as Lauren Smith's side prepare for life in the Championship following their relegation from the WSL and the departure of a number of key players.

The 20-year-old from Walsall has played in the top-flight for Liverpool and joins after a season in the Championship with Lewes FC

“Bristol City is a great club with a rich history in the women’s game – I’m excited for the next challenge in my career,“ Jhamat said.

"I’ve spoken at length with the manager about the plans for the club, the move to the new home stadium and how I can contribute on the pitch this season, and that’s what made my decision for me.

"Pre-season is going to be tough as we prepare for an incredibly competitive Championship season but it’s a challenge that I’m ready to embrace."

Jhamat's former England junior team-mate Ava Kuyken joined Bristol City last week, alongside striker Chloe O'Connor as Smith, who also returned to the West Country last month, rebuilds the squad.

Fifteen senior players have left City since their relegation was confirmed, including top-scorer Ebony Salmon, goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley, midfielder Carla Humphrey and defenders Gemma Evans and Jemma Purfield.
