Bristol City WFC chairman Mark Ashton congratulates captain Loren Dykes on MBE award

Bristol City WFC chairman Mark Ashton has congratulated captain Loren Dykes on being awarded on MBE in the New Year's honours list.

Dykes is one of only two players, male and female, to reach 100 appearances for Wales and has been awarded the Member of the British Empire award for services to women's football.

The Bristol City WFC captain has made almost 100 appearances for Bristol City and is also a coach for the Wales women's U15 team.

She is in her eleventh season playing for the Robins and chairman Mark Robins has congratulated her on the award.

He said: "Everyone at Bristol City would like to congratulate Loren on this outstanding achievement.

"Loren has had a fantastic career so far in the women’s game having surpassed a century of international caps for Wales last season, as well as being in her eleventh season here at Bristol City.

"It’s not only her work on the pitch for club and country that is making a lasting impact in the women’s game, but her work off the pitch within our community here in Bristol, as well as with the Wales Women’s Under-15s will ensure women’s football will thrive for years to come."

This year, Loren played every single minute of Wales women's World Cup qualifying campaign and won her 100th cap in April.

She played in the 2011 and 2013 FA Cup finals as part of her City career.

She is one of several sportswomen to have received an award in the New Year's honours list, including presenter Gabby Logan and England women's midfielder Jill Scott.
