Bristol City vs Celtic: Kick-off time, how to watch and team news for pre-season friendly

Much has changed since Bristol City last took to the field, as a desperately disappointing 2020/21 season ended with a whimper and defeat to Brentford.

Ten first-team players have gone, three new ones have arrived and three set to be out of contract have stuck around as Nigel Pearson looks to build a squad and culture in his image, that he believes will eventually be competitive enough to reach the Premier League.

After two-and-a-half weeks of training, the Robins kick-off their pre-season campaign with the visit of Scottish giants Celtic to Failand, in what will also help christen the Robins High Performance Centre.

Pearson doesn't want to put too much emphasis on the match itself, it's as much about getting minutes in the legs and monitoring player development, but the first match of the summer - with the new Championship season just three weeks away - remains of considerable intrigue for supporters from both sides.

Here are all the key details ...

What time does the game kick-off?

The match will take place on the main pitch at the Robins High Performance Centre and will kick-off at 19:45.

How can I watch it?

Bristol Live's City reporter Gregor MacGregor will be at Failand and bringing you all the build-up, action and reaction via our dedicated match blog.

The only place where the game is being streamed is via Robins TV with one-match passes available for £10 HERE. City are also offering three-game bundles, incorporating the forthcoming friendlies against Portsmouth and MK Dons, for £20.

Coverage begins at 19:15 with City owner Steve Lansdown and manager Nigel Pearson part of the build-up and player pathway manager Brian Tinnion providing analysis alongside Bristol City Women's forward and Scotland international Abi Harrison.

What's the team news?

Bristol City could be set to field all three of their new summer signings - Matty James, Andy King and Rob Atkinson - while the trio who extended their contracts - Danny Simpson, Andi Weimann and Nathan Baker - are also available.

Tomas Kalas, Adam Nagy and Nahki Wells have been given additional time off after representing their countries at either Euro 2020 or the Gold Cup qualifiers.

Nagy will join up with the group for the training camp at Loughborough University after tonight, while Kalas and Wells are scheduled to return next week.

Pearson will also be without Antoine Semenyo, Louis Britton and Robbie Cundy (all knee), while midfielder Joe Williams is yet to join the group for pre-season, although it's unclear whether his issue is a continuation of the hamstring problem he suffered in the second half of last season or a fresh injury.

As for Celtic, defender Kristoffer Ajer and midfielder Tom Rogic are yet to feature for the Hoops in pre-season but Postecoglou insists that due to fitness and injury issues rather than transfer-related, as both have been linked with moves away.

On Sunday, in the wake of beating Charlton, Postecoglou said: "Kris [Ajer] wasn’t 100% fit, same with Tommy Rogic. We will hopefully get some game time into them on Wednesday.”

What's the form guide?

Obviously the result comes secondary to the performance tonight and Pearson has been quick to declare these pre-season games as glorified training ground exercises.

This will be City's first 90 minutes since losing to Brentford on the final day of the 2020/21 Championship season.

Celtic have been on tour in south Wales where they have beaten League One sides Charlton Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday, 2-1 and 3-1 at the Wales National Football Development Centre in Newport.
