Bristol City U23 player ratings: Conway the standout as young Robins prove their potential

Will Buse - 6

Unfortunate not to save the first goal when beaten from close range. Great save to tip a header over the crossbar at beginning of second half. Cruel to concede the third after taking a wicked deflection. Distribution was impressive.

Zac Bell - 7

A superb assist to help get City back into the contest, firing a terrific ball with pace across the face of goal. Struggled with Bapaga's pace on his side with the second coming down his side. Got forward well at times but aware of the danger.

Callum Wood (off 58, Backwell) - 6

Was beaten on his side for the opener after three minutes when left on a one-on-one. Made a superb tackle inside his own box to deny a certain goal. Came off injured.

Ryley Towler - 7

Made a great tackle when Coventry looked certain to score a third before half-time. Marshalled the defence well after the two early sucker-punches. Won the ball high up the pitch and read the game well.

James Taylor - 6

Playing in the absence of Duncan Idehen, the centre-back was given an early eye-opener of Coventry's pace. A glimmer of class with a solid tackle before running 30 yards up the field and switching the play. Gave his all.

Dylan Kadji - 6

Took his time to get into the contest, struggling with the runners behind but grew into the contest as the game went on. Showed grit to win the ball back and moments of his quality. Could have been more adventurous going forward.

Josh Owers - 6

Certainly one of his quieter games, couldn't dictate the pace from midfield that we have become so accustomed to seeing. Moved to left-back after Wood came off injured.

Marley Rose (off 63, Thomas) - 6

Plenty of endeavour on and off the ball but found it difficult to impose himself. Doesn't shirk out of a tackle.

Owura Edwards - 7

City's most dangerous player in that first half, rewarded with a great finish from close range. Had the beating of his man but final ball let him down on occasions. Quieter in the second half.

Sam Bell - 7

One glimmer of goal in the first half but took a second too long to get his shot away and eventually blocked. A very similar incident in the second half. Moved centrally for the final 30 minutes having started out on the right and looked more dangerous.

Tommy Conway - 8

A superb finish to fire City level, finding space on the right of the box and drilling it across the keeper.

Denied from close range in the first half on the angle. Played centrally, dropping deeper with Bell making the runs from the right. Could have had two assists at least. Looked lively throughout.

Substitutes

Tommy Backwell (on 58, Wood) - 7

Immediate impact assisting Tommy Conway and played a brilliant pass through to Sam Bell when looking for the third. Certainly has a creative spark.

Olly Thomas (on 63, Rose) - 6

Made an impact out on the left, causing the defender plenty of issues with his physicality.

Seb Palmer Holden (on 79, Khadji) - N/A

Subs not used: Jose Casa Grande, Jamie Knight-Lebel,
