Bristol City turned down move for Aston Villa striker wanted by Nottingham Forest

Bristol City's search for a striker this month continues, with the club yet to add to their ranks.

Nahki Wells is the latest front man linked to the Robins, with Burnley willing to listen to offers for the 29-year-old currently on loan at QPR.

The Robins are also said to be keen on Charlton Athletic star Lyle Taylor, reportedly offering the Addicks a swap deal for Kasey Palmer.

Former Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia joins Qatari side Al Gharafa (Al Gharafa SC)

With just nine days left in the transfer window, time is running out for City to secure the two strikers that manager Lee Johnson was keen on before January.

Yet they could well have added to their attacking ranks already, had they opted to make a move for former star Jonathan Kodjia.

As revealed in yesterday's Robins Q&A , City are understood to have been offered Kodjia this month, with the then-Aston Villa man's contract set to expire in the summer.

Villa bought Kodjia from the Robins in 2016 after he netted 19 goals in 2015/16 following a move from French side Angers.

Despite subsequently hitting 19 goals in his first season for Villa, he struggled for regular football after this, and made just six Premier League appearances this season.

It led to January interest from Nottingham Forest, but Kodjia eventually left for Qatar side Al-Gharafa earlier this week.

Yet the Robins were offered the chance to re-sign the 30-year-old but opted to look elsewhere.

It is unknown exactly why Kodjia was looked over, but the Ivorian likely had high wages for the Championship and, at 30, does not exactly fit the mould of player the Robins traditionally look to sign.

Kodjia was criticised by Villa manager Dean Smith after his departure from the Premier League club, with Smith claiming the player was not up to the desired standard.

He told Birmingham Live: "Because he wasn't up to the standard, in my opinion.

"He hadn't got to the level of fitness that, for me, was required for the Premier League. That's the minimum standard to play Premier League football."
