Bristol City to vote on two proposed dates to start the 2020/21 Championship season

Championship clubs will vote on two proposed start dates for the 2020/21 season as early as next week.

EFL boss Rick Parry and his board members have today put forward two calendar proposals to EFL clubs that will be voted on before next Wednesday (July 15), Bristol Live understands.

The first proposal will see the season start on August 29 and run until the final day of May 9.

While proposal number two shifts the season a fortnight later, allowing clubs more time to prepare, starting on September 12 and ending on May 22.

It is expected that Championship clubs will opt to delay the season until September with the fixtures for the 2019/20 season currently set to end on July 22, allowing only the majority of sides only a month to prepare for a new campaign.

However, lower league clubs will be keen to get back on the field to generate urgently needed income during the coronavirus crisis.

It is also expected that the campaign will begin behind closed doors will clubs unlikely to welcome fans into arenas for months yet.
