Bristol City sweat on Andreas Weimann scan results after 'stamp' by Aden Flint

Bristol City have been dealt a potential injury blow for the Championship run-in - courtesy of an ex-Robin.

Last weekend's hat-trick hero Andreas Weimann is a doubt for the clash with Wigan at Ashton Gate on Saturday, thanks to a 'stamp' by former City defender Aden Flint.

Weimann was substituted early in the second period of the Robins' midweek 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

Lee Johnson has revealed the 27-year-old sustained the knock to the top of his foot in an accidental coming-together with Flint.

He underwent an x-ray yesterday to gauge the severity of the injury, with the results expected later today (Thursday).

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the visit of the Latics, the City boss said: "It was the top of the foot. He was stamped on by our friend Flinty, not on purpose I must add - accidental.

"He received quite a nasty stamp as he tried to take Flinty on."

Frank Lampard gives update on Derby County goalkeeper linked with Bristol City, Stoke City and Hull City in summer

Signed from Derby in the summer, the experienced Austrian has contributed a useful nine goals - including Saturday's hat-trick against Sheffield United - and four assists in the league, despite featuring predominantly on the wing.

Should he be ruled out for an extended period it would come as an ill-timed blow to Lee Johnson's side, who harbour serious hopes of maintaining their position in the play-off places.

Meanwhile, Korey Smith is also a doubt having been taken off after feeling 'a twinge' at the Riverside. The 28-year-old has missed most of the season having spent seven months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury

Liverpool £12m flop admits he fell out of love with football after controversial Bristol City loan but is now thriving at Rangers

"He felt a twinge to the injury he had before," Johnson said. "That's not unusual to feel a twinge like that for anyone whose had a medial ligament.

"It was just safer really to take him off. I wanted to put a big guy on anyway after the changes that they'd made and therefore it was safer to keep him out of it."
