Bristol City starlets head on loan as winger joins Oldham Athletic in League Two

Bristol City have announced that winger Jonny Smith is joining Oldham Athletic on loan for the season.

The fleet-footed winger has impressed for City's U23s side of late after a good (promotion-winning) campaign for Tranmere Rovers in 2018/19 he goes back to League Two for another season away from BS3.

The 22-year-old was snapped up by the Robins in 2016 from Wrexham and Smith has since played for AFC Fylde - scoring 10 goals for the Coasters - and Cheltenham Town in temporary spells.

City have also announced that Smith has penned a one-year contract extension with the club before making the move to Boundary Park.

That ties down the Liverpool-born attacker to Ashton Gate until the end of the 2021 season.

Meanwhile, Bristol City have also confirmed that young central defender Tom Harrison has joined Gloucester City in the National League North for a month's loan.

Harrison played on Sunday for the U23s at Elland Road in a 0-0 draw against Leeds United, but now links up with Kieran Smith and Vince Harper who are already on loan at the Tigers.

With Monday being the transfer deadline for clubs in Leagues One and Two to bring in players, there could yet be further moves announced later in the day.

However, Bristol Live understands that Marley Watkins will remain at Ashton Gate after several loan bids from League One sides were turned down.
