Bristol City set to miss out as Championship rivals close in on £1.2m Derby County winger previously linked to West Ham United

Bristol City look set to miss out on Luke Thomas.

The Robins were linked with a move for the 20-year-old Derby County winger over the weekend, but Gloucestershire Live report that the Cheltenham Town youth product will instead join Barnsley.

Thomas is said to have turned down City in order to make the move to Oakwell for a £1.2m fee - 15 per cent of which will go to Cheltenahm.

The attacker, who started his career in West Brom's academy, came through the youth ranks at Cheltenham before securing a 2016 move to Derby.

After interest from West Ham last summer, he signed a new contract spent the season on loan at Coventry City, scoring five goals in 44 appearances.

Barnsley won promotion to the Championship from League One last season, and their star striker Kieffer Moore has previously been linked with a move to City.
