Bristol City set to feature in new Amazon Leeds United documentary series

Bristol City are set to feature in a new documentary series following Leeds United's compelling Championship season - despite the crew allegedly being shut out when they visited Ashton Gate.

'Spygate' and the rest of Leeds United’s controversial season is coming to a screen near you after Amazon signed a deal to air it on their streaming service.

Football fans across the globe will have the chance to gain an inside insight into Leeds United's 2018/19 season as Marcelo Bielsa led his side to the brink of automatic promotion before settling for a place in the play-offs.

But the Whites suffered defeat to Derby County in the semi-finals, ending their Premier League dream for another season.

It was a campaign of high controversy at Elland Road, with all the fallout from the Spygate scandal making the headlines around the world.

It appears that supporters will soon have the chance to relive all the drama with the Daily Mail reporting that a deal has been signed for a documentary on the campaign.

Yorkshire-based filmmakers The City Talking have been filming behind-the-scenes throughout the season as Leeds looked to book their place in England’s top-flight.

Another lesser-known drama unfolded at Ashton Gate when Leeds and the filmmakers visited in March.

After the game, Leeds majority owner Andrea Radizzani claimed the documentary crew had not been allowed into the stadium amid tensions between the two clubs after Steve Lansdown called for the Whites to be ducked points in the wake of 'Spygate'.

However, our understanding is that the TV documentary crew DID have access but were not able to access the tunnel area due to logistics at one point.

Radrizzani tweeted: "What can you expect from a club whom request points deductions for no reasons and didn’t accept our documentary crew to access at the ground and follow our team."

Amazon has now reportedly agreed a deal to take on the Leeds story after recent successful football documentaries following Manchester City and Sunderland, with the series expected to be released in the coming months on Amazon Prime.

The City Talking production company describe themselves as 'A media company producing magazines and feature-length documentary films inspired by cities' and have previously worked on other Leeds United documentaries in the past.
