Bristol City's injuries and suspensions ahead of Cardiff City: Adam Nagy, Korey Smith, Josh Brownhill

Bristol City are not in fine fettle as they look for a first win at Cardiff City since 2002. Unfortunately Lee Johnson must cope without several of his top players for the trip to South Wales at the weekend.

The head coach gave updates at his pre-Bluebirds press conference on Thursday afternoon.

Here's how things stand currently...

Josh Brownhill

The central midfielder has not trained all week after suffering a back spasm against Barnsley last Friday - as explained by the head coach - and must be considered a big doubt for the weekend.

As Johnson, added himself, he has suffered from back problems too and it may be that Brownhill is not yet ready to return this weekend.

Benik Afobe

The former Stoke City striker continues to recover from his ACL injury sustained in September.

The Bristol City boss replied, "I just don't know" when we asked about the chances of the striker being back for the season, though he did reveal that Afobe is positive about the start of his rehab and the potential for a first-team return.

Adam Nagy

The Hungarian defender is back in training but this match probably arrives too early for the midfielder. An extremely outside chance of making the Severnside Derby, before heading away to Hungary for assessment with his country.

Nagy will then either remain with the Hungary team or head back to Ashton Gate. He didn't play in the last international break, but he did in the one before.

Korey Smith

The all-action central midfielder has been in training for almost two weeks now and could be pressed into action from the bench this weekend.

However, more likely is that he will get the international break and another two weeks to further work on match fitness and regaining top condition. Light at the end of the tunnel!

Famara Diedhiou

The Senegalese striker is of course suspended as he completes his three-match ban. He will be available next for the Nottingham Forest game after the international break.

Jay Dasilva

The former Chelsea defender continues to make his way back from a tibia fracture. He has an important scan on 11 November after this weekend to see if the healing has com good.

Unlikely to be back until December at the earliest, given that he will likely need some intense fitness training before a return to the pitch for real.

Jack Hunt

The right-back is not due back until after the international break as he recovers from a hamstring injury - as he hobbled through the final minutes of the Luton defeat.

Unlikely to make a surprise return against Cardiff City but not completely ruled out.
