Bristol City's future Championship opponents Barnsley part company with manager

Barnsley have this morning confirmed that manger Daneil Stendel has left the club with immediate effect.

Stendel, who joined the Tykes in June 2018, lead the club back into the second tier as runners-up to Luton Town last season, but has so far this season found life tough going at the higher level.

Barnsley currently sit second bottom of the Championship table having won just one of their 11 league matches so far this season.

A club statement released on Tuesday morning read: "Barnsley Football Club confirms that it has separated from Daniel Stendel with immediate effect. Adam Murray has been appointed caretaker manager."

The German, who took charge in June 2018  led the Tykes to promotion from League One in his first season but had to deal with the sales of key players over the summer.

Barnsley saw their entire spine ripped out with top scoer Kieffer Moore signing for Wigan, defender Ethan Pinnock moving to Brentford, while centre-back partner Liam Lindsay and goalkeeper Adam Davies joining Stoke.

Stendel's final game in charge saw his side suffer a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Preston North End on Saturday afternoon, leaving them two points adrift of safety in the Championship table.

Murray's first game in temporary charge of the Tykes will be against Swansea City on Saturday, October 19.

Bristol City travel to Oakwell on November 1 for a Friday night fixture under the floodlights.
