Bristol City's expected starting XI as Robins travel to Hull City looking to win three games on the bounce

It's still very early days in their evolution and staff and players are keen to temper expectations slightly, but Bristol City's last two wins have provided a feeling that things are starting to click into place for the Robins.

A summer of considerable upheaval, both in and out of the club, a listless display against Leeds United on opening day and a frantic last few days of the transfer deadline led to fears over a lack of progression.

But if the 2-0 win over QPR was slightly flawed, the 2-1 triumph against Derby revealed a cohesive City side who, in a very short space of time, have made a considerable leap forward.

Hull City is another barometer of exactly where Lee Johnson's side are at in their development with the Tigers under new management in Grant McCann but always a tough opponent at home.

Indeed City have won just once on Humberside in their last eight meetings since 2005.

Here is our forecast for how City will line-up at the KCOM Stadium ...

Goalkeeper

Dan Bentley's two best performances in a Bristol City shirt so far have been over the Robins last two matches, with eye-catching saves in each, and he already looks a safe pair of hands for the season.

Unless the 26-year-old is carrying any sort of injury, he will continue between the posts for the , although Niki Maenpaa is nearing full match fitness.

The Finn has recovered from his calf injury and started for the Under-23s against Wigan on Monday and could well take Rene Gilmartin's place on the bench.

Defence

Having enjoyed success with a back three at home to QPR and against Derby, Lee Johnson is likely to continue with the central trio of Taylor Moore, Nathan Baker and Tomas Kalas.

There is also the consideration that, with Bailey Wright's injury absence of a minimum 8-10 weeks, they are the only first-team centre-backs currently on the books, on a free transfer still pending.

Tommy Rowe should continue at left wing-back as the 30-year-old has been excellent since coming into the side for Jay Dasilva.

On the right, Jack Hunt did enough to retain his place but having undergone treatment during the 2-1 win over Derby could be carrying a knock and if so, Pedro Pereira is ready to fill in.

Midfield

Adam Nagy and his return date unspecified as the club wait on the results of a scan.

Captain Josh Brownhill, Han-Noah Massengo and Kasey Palmer were all excellent at Pride Park on Tuesday and keeping that axis together seems likely against Hull City.

The way Palmer has struck up an instant understanding with Benik Afobe bodes especially well with the midfielder's through-balls tailor-made for the striker's movement off the shoulders of defenders.

Attack

Again, unless there are injuries in defence forcing a formation change, we have to assume Johnson will maintain his 3-4-1-2 with Andi Weimann alongside Afobe up front.

Like Hunt, Weimann did also receive treatment against Derby but unlike the full-back completed the 90 minutes so unless some extra damage have come to light this week, the Austrian will start.

Should he be the subject of assistant head coach Dean Holden's mention of "niggles and knocks" then it'll be interesting to see if Johnson starts Famara Diedhiou, Sammie Szmodics or Antoine Semenyo against Hulll.

The former is the obvious and more senior and experienced option, but the latter two, especially Szmodics, are more Weimann-like in their approach with Afobe and the Austrian combining so well in the three matches they've played together.

Bristol City (3-4-1-2): Bentley; Moore, Kalas, Baker; Hunt/Pereira, Nagy, Brownhill, Rowe; Palmer; Weimann, Afobe
