Bristol City revive interest in West Ham's former Preston North End striker Jordan Hugill - report

Bristol City have revived their interest in a Premier League striker, according to reports.

The Robins are said to be back in the hunt for West Ham United's Jordan Hugill as they continue their quest to find an attacker to provide support or an alternative to Famara Diedhiou.

City were supposedly monitoring Hugill before he moved to the London Stadium in January 2018.

The 27-year-old has endured a tough time in the top flight since joining the Hammers from Preston North End, playing just 35 minutes of Premier League football in three substitute appearances.

He spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough but struggled to emulate the form in the Championship that saw the east London club splash around £10m to take him to the Olympic Stadium, scoring six times in 37 appearances.

The forward will be deemed surplus to requirements at West Ham, who have just made French striker Sebastien Haller their record signing for £45m, while they also have Chicarito Hernandez and Michail Antonio.

According to Sky Sports News, Bristol City are among several clubs interested in giving Hugill another chance to rediscover his touch in the second tier.

QPR are also said to be monitoring the striker after a move to Wigan Athletic fell through on Wednesday.

Hugill has 29 goals in 137 Championship appearances and would offer a decent alternative to Famara Diedhiou - although with West Ham keen to recuperate the £10m they spent on him and three years left on his contract, his price tag could be a sticking point.

Head coach Lee Johnson has made no secret of his desire to sign at least one more attacker this summer.

The club has also been linked with Sheffield Wednesday's Lucas Joao, Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah and Kieffer Moore of Barnley in recent days and weeks.
