Bristol City reveal pre-season schedule with games against Portsmouth and Cheltenham Town

Dean Holden's first match as permanent Bristol City head coach will take place at Ashton Gate on Friday, August 21 with the visit of League Two Cheltenham Town for a pre-season friendly.

The Robins will then take on League One side Portsmouth at BS3 on Saturday, August 29, in preparation for the 2020/21 Championship season which kicks off on September 12.

Both sides reached their respective play-off semi-finals and should provide a strong test for Holden's City side who this week returned to pre-season following a two-week break.

Cheltenham, previously managed by ex-City boss Gary Johnson and new assistant Keith Downing, are familiar opponents given how geographically close they are.

Unlike in previous campaigns, City want to hold matches within a close radius to Bristol due to Covid-19 protocols and limiting travel time.

Bristol Live understands a third match will also take place, with the opponent and venue to be confirmed.

Although the games will be played behind closed doors, as per government guidelines, City are exploring streaming options to ensure supporters can watch the team.

Bristol Rovers' pre-season friendly against Bristol Manor Farm last Saturday was streamed at a cost of £4.99 via the non-league club's website.
