Bristol City reportedly show late interest in Chelsea and Wales starlet Ethan Ampadu - but there's a hitch

Bristol City have shown a late interest in Chelsea and Wales youngster Ethan Ampadu.

According to our colleagues at Bristol Live, the Robins are keen to add their defensive ranks in this window and see the former Exeter City starlet as the perfect fit.

Ampadu is currently on loan at RB Leipzig, but has so far found game time difficult to come by, making just two appearances for the club this season, both of which have come from the bench.

Reports across the Severn suggest he is keen on a return to the UK, although sealing a move away could be complicated by the fact that Chelsea are believed not to have a recall option in this loan contract with the Bundesliga outfit.

However, Leipzig could yet decide to terminate the loan deal, which would allow Ampadu to potentially move elsewhere.

Indeed, there have already been signs that the relationship between the club and the player could be starting to fray.

The 19-year old was recently named as one of nine players to find himself in the firing line from Leipzig chief Ralf Rangnick, after he discovered that the team had flown in a celebrity stylist from London on the eve of the 2-0 defeat to Frankfurt.

Rangnick told German outlet Sportbuzzer:"I would have bet 100,000 euros that our players would not have let a star hairdresser from England fly in to have their hair done in the hotel.

"I would have lost that 100,000 euros.

"The 2-0 defeat was annoying enough, the barber story stunned me.

"It is decadent."
