Bristol City praised by EFL manager over handling of players as youngster heads out on loan

Danny Cowley has praised the way Bristol City handle their players.

The Lincoln City boss was speaking after his club signed Joe Morrell on loan from the Robins for the upcoming season.

Morrell is one of a number of talented young players on the Robins' books, and Cowley, who has lead the Imps to two promotions into League One, said having a good link with Ashton Gate due to the fact coach Jamie McCombe is good friends with Lee Johnson, is vital.

“We’re lucky to have a really good relationship with Bristol City and we’re really appreciative of them and Lee. It’s a good link to have,” said Cowley to Lincolnshire Live.

“I know that Lee thinks a lot of him and we’ve got to thank him for trusting us with Joe.

“It wasn’t about the finances for Bristol City, it was about trying to get him to the right place.

“They know we’ll invest in his development and give him the opportunity and pathway that he needs at this stage in his career.”

The Sincil Bank boss backed Morrell to impress this season.

He said: “He’s a fantastic receiver and passer and has the ability to think so quickly and find space.

“He’ll definitely add to our creativity which is an area where I think we can improve going forward.

“We evolved a lot last season and Joe is a player who will help us to keep improving and keep evolving.

“He’s very tactically bright. We’re a structured team and the players need to have the ability to carry out instructions. You should never be strangled by the framework, but certainly understand the way we play and carry that out.

“And the great thing is that Joe is really hungry. He’s very talented but also very hardworking. They are key qualities for us.”
