Bristol City player ratings vs Stoke City: Andy King mistake costly but Nahki Wells impresses

Max O'Leary - 6

Barely given anything to do in the opening 45 minutes up until Delap's strike. May think he could have done better to stop the first but was given no chance with the second. Kicking wayward at times.

Zak Vyner - 6

Was handed a few tests by Delap who looked to take it on the outside and beat him for pace but Vyner was up to the task. Not responsible for either of the goals and was involved in some good build-up in the first half. A few loose long balls forward but overall can be pleased with his own performance.

Andy King (off 83, Martin) - 4

Was comfortable up until the stroke of half-time when he wasn't strong enough to deal with a high ball into the area. Couldn't head it clear and was punished. Has to come under scrutiny for Stoke's second when he and James went for the same ball, allowing his clearance to fall to Brown.

Kal Naismith - 6

Can't be blamed for any of the Stoke goals and was relatively assured from a defensive point of view. Could have stopped Campbell's cross that led to their second. Was blocked off by Stoke's three-man midfield from playing those progressive passes forward. Played some really good deliveries into the box.

Cam Pring - 6

Superb assist to give City the lead. Showed his pace and strength to beat Brown and get the byline before smashing a ball across the goal. A lot quieter in the second half with City struggling to get the ball out to the wide positions. Mistake at the end almost proved costly.

Matty James - 5

Involved in an intriguing battle up against Will Smallbone with the duo barely leaving each other's sides. It meant that supply line was cut off meaning City were forced to go long. A mix-up with King led to Stoke's second.

Joe Williams (off 75, Sykes) - 6

Involved at both ends of the pitch in the opening 45 minutes including winning numerous tackles deep in Stoke's half to keep attacks alive. Had a half chance from Weimann's cross but couldn't direct his header towards goal. Quieter in the second period before coming off.

Alex Scott - 6

Pulled off a lovely nutmeg on Brown under pressure which the fans enjoyed. Arguably the best player on the pitch in the first half but couldn't assert his authority in the second. Had a couple of attempts from distance but without testing Jack Bonham.

Andi Weimann - 6

Came within inches of opening the scoring when his effort on the angle bounced back off the post. Could have equalised after cutting back onto his left foot in the area but appeared to run into Wells. Constantly up and down the field.

Nahki Wells - 7

Was at the forefront of every attack in the first half and was in a poacher's spot to turn in Cam Pring's across minutes after almost assisting Weimann. A real handful but performance tailed off in the final 15 minutes. Didn't really click alongside Semenyo.

Tommy Conway (off 60, Semenyo) - 5

Full of endeavour and running down the channels but without getting in a position to threaten the Stoke goal. Played a decent cross from the right that no one could turn in. A quiet game by his standards before being replaced after Stoke's second.

Substitutes

Antoine Semenyo (on 60, Conway) - 5

Couldn't influence the game on his introduction although may feel he could have won a penalty. One blocked opportunity in front of goal at the end.

Mark Sykes (on 75, Williams) - 6

Offered pace and width which Stoke couldn't deal with at times. Came close with a left-footed effort.

Chris Martin (on 83, King) - N/A

Subs not used: Bentley, Bell, Tanner, Dasilva
