Bristol City player ratings vs Sheffield United: Alex Scott stars but Robins frustrate in attack

Max O'Leary - 7

Very little to do in the first half with the visitors mustering just one tame effort on target. Not afraid to come out of his area to play from the back which led to one or two heart-in-mouth moments. Had little chance with the goal.

George Tanner - 5

Enjoyed a positive game until he was handed his marching orders in stoppage time for flying into a challenge on McAtee. Almost scored a goal of the season contender when his long-range effort cannoned off the outside of the post. Lack of communication with Vyner for the goal with Ndiaye left unmarked at the backpost.

The sending off ruined a good performance and it will leave City light of defenders as he faces a three-game ban.

Zak Vyner - 6

Was faultless up until the Sheffield United goal when his poor clearance was recycled by the visitors. It was his header that landed to Ndiaye's path for the opener although he seemed to have a hand in the back from Sharp who was offside. A real shame because he had a good game except for that costly piece of defending.

Cam Pring - 7

Wasn't shy in showing his attacking intent with a series of marauding runs forward. A couple of nervy moments in possession left the manager bellowing down in the dugout. Launched himself into challenges

Mark Sykes (off 60, Semenyo) - 6

Was rarely tested from a defensive perspective in the first half and a searching pass forward to find Weimann when his effort clipped the bar. Almost had a cross turned in by Wells after United's goal before coming off in place of Antoine Semenyo as Pearson looked for a different dimension in attack.

Jay Dasilva - 6

Played so high up the field and almost got himself on the end of a Sykes cross in the second half. Dragged an effort wide of the target but found it difficult to beat his man in a 1 vs 1 situation.

Matty James (off 79, Williams) - 7

Disciplined and resolute performance by James who controlled the game alongside Alex Scott in the first half. Wasn't as effective in the second when he came under more pressure on the ball from the visitors.

Alex Scott - 8

Saw a lot of the ball in the opening exchanges and showed his quality with a range of passes to move the United defence around. Made a dazzling run in the box at the end of the first half. Booked for pulling back his man. Played with the bit between his teeth and by far City's best player on the day.

Andi Weimann - 7

Looked back to full fitness and his usual energetic self after missing out over the weekend. His movement behind the front pairing asked questions and United found it difficult to pick him up. Almost opened the scoring when his effort clipped the top of the crossbar on the stroke of half-time. Moved to wing-back in the second half and drifted out of the game.

Nahki Wells (off 79, Martin) - 7

Ran himself into the ground including backtracking on two occasions to win the ball back inside his own half. Just didn't fall for him in the area despite getting into some good positions. Touch slightly heavy at times with his back to goal but was effective in dropping deep before spreading the ball out to the wing-backs. Fans didn't appreciate the substitution to bring him off the field for Martin.

Tommy Conway - 6

Struggled to impose himself in the first 45 minutes and barely had a sniff of goal. It wasn't through the want of trying though as he constantly harassed the backline. Didn't come off for him this evening.

Substitutes

Antoine Semenyo (on 60, Sykes) - 6

Came closest to scoring the equaliser when his strike on the turn agonisingly flashed past the far post with the keeper beaten.

Joe Williams (on 79, James) - N/A

Chris Martin (on 79, Wells) - N/A

Subs not used: Bentley, King, Klose, Low
