Bristol City player ratings vs QPR: Joe Williams among standout performers in deserved victory

Max O'Leary - 7

Not an awful lot to do in the first half but made a good stop with his legs to deny Paal's dangerous cross. Commanding of his area in the second half when under pressure. Also good with his distribution.

George Tanner - 7

Enjoyed a decent game at right-back but nothing spectacular. Didn't seem in a hurry to press forward, allowing Sykes to put in the hard yards. Was beaten once near the byline and had a couple of loose passes. Earned an extra point for the clean sheet.

Zak Vyner - 8

A performance that summed up his season. Barely put a foot wrong although perhaps lucky to escape an early yellow card when he pulled back Dykes. Stood up to the aerial test with QPR pumping deliveries into the box.

Kal Naismith (off Kalas, 63) - 7

Fed some positive passes forward, looking to get Alex Scott on the ball and into play. A few testing moments up against the physicality of Dykes and Martin but largely solid - his ability to play progressive football was key to get City up the pitch.

Cam Pring - 8

A great block to deny Dykes after 20 minutes when the striker cut across Naismith. A second assist in two games to pick out Sykes for the opening goal. Gave Adomah a nightmare with his runs going forward with some excellent deliveries to boot. Quieter in the second half, sticking to his task defensively.

Matty James (off 85, King) - 7

Yet another consistently strong and impressive performance from the experienced midfielder who was perfectly timed in the tackle. Positionally excellent again and did the dirty work. Dug in when he needed to.

Joe Williams (off 63, Weimann) - 8

Great tenacity and energy, running himself into the ground to protect his defenders. Got his reward with an assist for City's second when he picked out Sam Bell. Smart in possession, keeping it simple with James when he needed to.

Alex Scott - 7

Showed some moments of class in the first half, drifting out to the left to pick up the ball and driving forward. Dropped deeper following the substitutes which saw him have greater influence carrying the ball forward. Can't remember him losing the ball when in possession.

Sam Bell (off 63, Mehmeti) - 7

Was barely able to get himself into the game or have an influence until he crept in at the back post to double City's lead. A job well done and a beaming smile heading off the pitch seven minutes later.

Tommy Conway (off 63, Wells) - 7

Lovely link-up play to drop deeper and create that space beyond the defenders for Sykes and Bell to exploit. Could have doubled City's lead in the first half when he fired wide on the angle. Quieter in the second period.

Mark Sykes - 8

Right place at the right time to tap home Pring's cross to give City the lead. Chased down a lost cause to win a corner that led to their second. Bags of energy getting back and forth. The only criticism was he could have been more decisive with his deliveries on occasion.

Substitutes

Anis Mehmeti (on 63, Bell) - 6

Had a handful of opportunities to lead the counter-attack with QPR pushing forward but couldn't take full advantage. A few moments of trickery.

Andi Weimann (on 63, Williams) - 6

Plenty of energy but was limited to doing his defensive duties as QPR aimed to get back into the game.

Nahki Wells (on 63, Conway ) - 6

Almost tied with Conway for the golden boot when he agonisingly missed James' delivery at the back post. Was desperate for a goal to round off his season.

Tomas Kalas (on 63, Naismith) - 6

Great to see him back on the pitch, in what could be his final appearance if he doesn't sign a new contract. Looked to relish going up against Dykes. Made a great headed clearance in front of O'Leary.

Andy King (on 85, James) - N/A

Subs not used: Wiles-Richards, Cornick
