Bristol City 'open investigation' into alleged racist chanting in Luton Town defeat

Bristol City have opened an investigation into the alleged 'racist chants' that took place during the game against Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.

Bristol Live explained on Saturday evening how fans had reported improper chanting during the 3-0 loss to the Hatters and the club issued a statement that any complaints would be investigated.

Now the club has issued a further update, adding that complaints have been made and that investigations have been opened.

Any supporters found to have been involved in the events - if proven - are likely to lead to banning orders and even prosecution.

Bristol Live has been copied into one supporter's correspondence with the club, in which the fan explains that such behaviour cannot be tolerated and would lead to away supporters boycotting matches if such actions continued.

Meanwhile, some reports on social media have also alleged that there was also improper chanting directed at the away supporters too from Luton fans.

The Robins' new statement reads:

'Bristol City Football Club has been made aware of allegations of racist language used in the away end at Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at Luton Town’s Kenilworth Road (October 19th).

The club naturally condemns any form of abuse or racist language.

Bristol City are a family club which celebrates its diversity and inclusivity. Action will be taken against anyone behaving in a racist manner at a Bristol City match, who has purchased their ticket or season card through the club as well as reporting them to the relevant authorities.

The club are now fully investigating these reports and can assure supporters that appropriate action will be taken.

Anyone wanting to report inappropriate behaviour can do so through  slo@bcfc.co.uk .'
