Bristol City next manager odds: Cowley remains strong favourite as Chris Hughton's odds lengthened

Former Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley is the strong favourite to be the next Bristol City manager, with former favourite Chris Hughton slipping away.

Cowley was sacked from his role as Terriers boss on Sunday afternoon despite leading the relegation-threatened side to safety in their first season back in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League last season.

He and his brother Nicky have both been relieved of their duties, with the likes of Lee Johnson, Steve Cotterill and Hughton being given odds to take over, however Leeds United coach Carlos Corberan is looking the favourite.

Following his sacking, Cowley was almost immediately placed as favourite to take the Bristol City job, with the club now into the third week of their search for a new manager following Johnson's dismissal.

The Cowley brothers would fit the kind of appointment Bristol City want to make, with Danny being one of the youngest managers in the EFL and having success with former club Lincoln.

However the club are still taking their time over an appointment and have been conducting interviews with potential candidates.

The former bookies favourite and overwhelming fans choice, former Newcastle boss Chris Hughton, has seen his odds lengthen since the sacking of the Cowleys and is now third favourite at 8/1, despite previously being at evens with SkyBet.

Hughton is reported to be interested in the job, but is also being linked with the vacant positions as Birmingham and Watford, following the respective sackings of Pep Clotet and Nigel Pearson.

Steven Gerrard remains the second favourite to take over, despite reports suggesting that he has turned down the role, with Aston Villa assistant John Terry and Plymouth manager Ryan Lowe falling away following early surges.
