Bristol City next manager odds: Alex Neil emerges as new favourite with Paul Cook still in the running

Preston North End manager Alex Neil has emerged as  the new favourite with the bookies  to be the next Bristol City boss.

It's now been over four weeks since Lee Johnson was relieved from his duties as Bristol City manager and the club are getting closer and closer to appointing a successor.

It's been an extremely thorough process and the Robins board are desperate to get this appointment right, with the aims of Premier League football still firmly in their sight.

So far, Bristol Live understands that Chris Hughton, Paul Cook and Dean Holden have all been interviewed for the role and are on the shortlist, however there are other unknown names also being considered by the likes of Mark Ashton and Steve Lansdown.

There is no telling exactly when an appointment will be made, however the second round of interviews is expected to kick off imminently and a new man could be at the helm in the next few days.

And now according to Sky Bet, Neil has leapfrogged former Wigan Athletic boss Paul Cook and has become the new favourite for the role.

Now priced at 11/10, the former Norwich City chief has come from nowhere to lead the betting.

Cook is now second favourite priced at 13/8, while Chris Hughton has drifted out to 6/1 with the bookmaker.

Dean Holden is priced at 9/1, while John Terry has drifted out to 16/1, with Ryan Lowe and Steven Gerrard at 18/1.
