Bristol City miss out as Middlesbrough tie up deal for Charlton Athletic right-back

Charlton Athletic right-back Anfernee Dijksteel has moved to Middlesbrough.

The 22-year-old has moved to the Riverside for a fee believed to be £2m as they saw off interest from Bristol City in the versatile player.

Addicks boss Lee Bowyer had revealed the Robins' interest in Dijksteel last week, but it is unclear how serious it was, with Boro able to offer a better financial package for both the club and the player.

Speaking on Sunday to BBC Radio Bristol, Robins owner Steve Lansdown refused to comment on speculation over Dijksteel.

He said: "I don't know about that one to be honest. That's not one on my list that I can comment on but there's a number of positions that we want to fill and provide cover for the team.

"I think it's well documented that we want some firepower and we are a bit light in the right-back position.

"But all that's been ongoing."

Instead, the Robins appear to have opted for a move for Portuguese defender Pedro Pereira.

The right-back underwent a medical yesterday ahead of a proposed move from Benfica.

A loan move is most likely for the 21-year-old, who spent the last two seasons in Serie A with Genoa.
