Bristol City midfielder talks about Coventry City loan spell after scoring against Bristol Rovers in FA Cup

Bristol City midfielder Liam Walsh spoke about his loan spell at Coventry City after he got on the scoresheet against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup this weekend.

The 22-year old levelled the game for Coventry with a low driven shot from 20-yards out in the first half, and after the game said: “I’ve just got my head down and had a shot, because I need to start chipping in with a few more assists and goals and happy I’ve done that today.”

Walsh has made 20 appearances for the Sky Blues this season during his loan spell and even contributed to Coventry’s second equaliser against Rovers.

Walsh made a bursting run through the midfield and chipped Rovers goalkeeper Jordi van Stappershoef, forcing defender Tony Craig to put the ball in his own net, whilst trying to clear the shot.

Walsh, however, saw it differently. He said: “I’m saying it’s my goal obviously, but I think it's gone down as an own goal, but if you look properly, the ball was spinning into the goal so I’m saying I got a brace.”

Whilst joking about the goal, the midfielder is still focused on and off the pitch, and addressed his form during his loan spell.

He said: “I have to concentrate on where I am at and currently that is Coventry. It’s been brilliant, it’s what I wanted from the start to just play week in week out and now I need to just start racking up my numbers.

“I have to thank the gaffer, he believes in me and I like the shape that we are playing and when I’m playing with the lads, they make it a lot easier for me and I’m enjoying my football at the minute.

Walsh, whilst keeping his head down and pushing for promotion with Coventry, has admitted that he is still desperate to break into the Bristol City side next season.

He said: “There’s a few people I speak to now and then, before they send you out on loan, they keep a close eye, so I just have to keep putting the performances in.

"Bristol City are a great club and have a great manager and that’s where I want to end up playing at the end, so I hope he sees my performances and gets me in”.

With the game eventually finishing 2-2, Walsh will have another chance to play against Bristol Rovers on January 14.
