Bristol City midfielder Joe Morrell heads out on loan to Lincoln City

Bristol City midfielder Joe Morrell has joined Lincoln City on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old made four first-team appearances for the Robins last season and will now spend the coming campaign at the newly-promoted League One club.

Morrell impressed on his league debut for the Robins against Ipswich Town, winning praise from Lee Johnson for his performance.

Manager Lee Johnson congratulates Joe Morrell after Bristol City win 2-1 against Bolton at Ashton Gate Stadium in the FA Cup 4th Round proper (Rogan/JMP)

He said: "Another academy graduate obviously. You could put him in the World Cup final and he'd still play the same way. He's very composed and very calm and a lovely lad.

"He's got lovely hips and he was very bright today. He was exceptional for 10-15 minutes but then their shape got the better of us."

Yet with the Robins having plenty of options in midfield - and the arrival of Kasey Palmer on loan in January - his game time was limited and he will now continue his development at the Imps.

It is his fourth spell out on loan after previous stints at Sutton United, Margate and Cheltenham Town.
