Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has changed his tune since opening day Leeds United defeat

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson believes that if his side were to meet Leeds United tomorrow then the game would be a different outcome to that of the first game of this season.

Goals from Pablo Hernandez, Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison handed the Whites a 3-1 win at Ashton Gate on the opening weekend of the season.

And speaking back in August, Johnson believed there was a 'gulf in quality' between the two when asked about the game in his post-match press conference.

"Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say they were better than us, in their brain, the way they moved," he said.

"A gulf in quality on the day. That's just me being honest."

But now, the Robins boss has changed his tune, and believes that Marcelo Bielsa’s men simply caught his side “at a bad time”.

"I think West Brom blew us apart in patches and Leeds caught us at a bad time, but if we played Leeds and West Brom again tomorrow, I don’t feel that we wouldn’t be competitive,” he told Bristol Live ahead of his side’s game against Fulham this weekend.

Leeds sit second in the Championship table, two points behind league leaders West Brom.

While City sit in fifth, eight points behind the Whites with the two next scheduled to meet on the 15th of February.
