Bristol City loanee Markus Henriksen eyeing up high-profile move when Hull City contract ends

Markus Henriksen has outlined his ambitions to play in a top-five European league.

The midfielder is currently on loan at Bristol City and won man of the match in his first appearance for the club.

Yet he was hauled off at half-time in the Robins' defeat to Huddersfield Town, with manager Lee Johnson critical of his January signings' performances.

Henriksen was subsequently excluded from City's next two squads prior to the coronavirus shutdown.

The Norwegian joined on loan from Hull City, where he had been frozen out ahead of the end of his contract this summer - and he had already revealed to Bristol Live his disappointment at how he was treated by the Tigers.

He is now keen to test himself at the highest level.

"I want to play at the highest level I can, so a club from a top five league is what I want the most," he said in an interview with boyhood club Rosenborg.

"However, it’s not like before when I could think of just myself. Now I have to think about the whole package, what is best for the kids and the wife too.

"I have already heard something, so it should offer opportunities, I think. It is important that it is right.

"Now I’ve been out (of Norway) for nine years, and it’s been quite a few years. As I said, it must feel right and good for me to go out again."

The 27-year-old also indicated that he is keen to bring his playing career to a close back in Norway, where he is currently staying with family due to the coronavirus.

"I don’t think it will be too long before I consider going back home," said Henriksen.

"The kids are getting older and the wife is tired of the foreign life. Maybe a few more years. I will not return (to Norway) if my body is tired and heavy.

"If I’m going back, I must be hungry, be at the top of my career and really help the club."
