Bristol City linked with transfer move for Brentford goalkeeper Daniel Bentley - reports

Bristol City are interested in signing goalkeeper Daniel Bentley from their Championship rivals Brentford according to the latest reports.

Specialist transfer journalist Alan Nixon reports in The Sun on Sunday that Lee Johnson is looking to fill his goalkeeper void by adding the 25-year-old stopper for a fee in the region of £4m.

Bentley has played more than 260 games in the EFL, making his debut for Southend United in October 2011.

In July 2016 he joined Championship side Brentford and has made 123 appearances for the club to date, establishing himself as first choice at the Bees.

The Robins are in need of a new man between the sticks after releasing Frank Fielding and New Zealand goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic at the end of the season.

Fielding made 181 appearances for the Robins while Marinovic, who was signed as a free agent as injury cover in March , played just one match for the club - starting in a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.

Head coach Lee Johnson still has two senior keepers at his disposal after he triggered a clause in Niki Maenpaa’s contract earlier this week.

The Finnish international signed a one-year deal last summer after a successful trial at the Robins, and will now stay at Ashton Gate for another season.

He made 27 appearances for the Robins this season and was generally the club's number one barring injury.

Johnson also has Max O'Leary to call upon who capped off a brilliant breakthrough season at Bristol City by being called up to the Republic of Ireland squad yesterday.

The 22-year-old made 16 appearances for the Robins this season, impressing in goal when deputising for Maenpaa.

After injury to Mark Travers, O'Leary has now been called up to the Irish squad for their upcoming two Euro 2020 qualifiers.

City have previously been linked with Derby County stopper Kelle Roos.
