Bristol City linked with former Leeds United defender as Wigan Athletic firesale continues

Bristol City are keen to sign Wigan Athletic defender Tom Pearce according to the latest reports.

The left-back joined the Latics from Leeds United last summer and made seven appearances in the Championship last term.

Bristol City already have an existing relationship with Wigan after signing midfielder Joe Williams in cut-price £1.2million deal.

The Latics are still in serious financial uncertainty after their relegation from the second-tier which was caused by a 12-point deduction for entering administration.

Williams, Kieffer Moore, Antonee Robinson and Jamal Lowe have already been stripped from the club to raise funds and Pearce could be next in the queue, along with Cedric Kipre.

The Sun report that Bristol City are keen on Pearce to provide competition for Jay Dasilva this season, with Dean Holden keen to striker a deal.

Tommy Rowe often deputised for City at left-back in the absence of Dasilva but Holden's permanent switch to 3-5-2 has left the Robins short of a like-for-like replacement for the former Chelsea defender.

Speaking to the press about potential incomings at Ashton Gate, Holden said: “We’re close on a couple but the clubs we’re taking them from are waiting on getting theirs in and out, so it’s a little bit of a domino effect.

“I’ll be speaking to someone on Monday afternoon and we’re working hard.”

Pearce was part of the England Under-20 squad for the Toulon Tournament in 2019, where he made three appearances.
