Bristol City linked with Chelsea defender also interesting Nottingham Forest and Southampton - report

Bristol City have been linked with an unlikely move for Chelsea starlet Marc Guehi.

The Sun report that the Robins are one of a number of clubs interested in the young defender, who is one of the latest talents to emerge at Stamford Bridge.

At first glance, it would appear odd for City to be linked with the 19-year-old, however.

The Robins were looking for a defender in the summer following the departure of Adam Webster, but signed Ashley Williams on a free transfer shortly after the window shut.

Williams has impressed and signed a contract extension until the end of the season, and the Robins have other priorities to strengthen in January, with manager Lee Johnson revealing he wanted to target two strikers.

Yet, if City are interested in Guehi, then they face competition from Nottingham Forest and Swansea City - along with Premier league duo Norwich City and Southampton.

The Robins' close links with the Blues could well secure them a deal for Guehi, however.

Guehi has been accelerated through England's youth system to Aidy Boothroyd's under-21s and he was tied down to a new deal at Stamford Bridge in September.
