Bristol City linked with Adam Davies of Barnsley as Robins continue goalkeeper search

The Robins are monitoring Barnsley's Adam Davies according to the latest reports.

We understand that Bristol City are looking to recruit a new goalkeeper this summer - as we reported on the club's summer transfer plans last month - and City have already been credited with an interest in Kelle Roos of Derby County.

CEO Mark Ashton, head coach Lee Johnson and co will extend the contract of Niki Maenpaa while Max O'Leary has enjoyed a stunning breakthrough season, but the club are also looking to bring in another option in goal with Frank Fielding having been released.

Davies was named in the League One team of the season in the last few weeks but is out of contract this summer, and now our sister website Stoke Sentinel reports that Bristol City are one of the options for the 26-year-old as he considers his future.

However, there is mounting interest in the Tykes' shot-stopper, with Stoke City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Birmingham City and others all reported as interested in the Wales international.

Barnsley still retain hope of keeping the player but Daniel Stendel's team may face stiff competition, it is said, while the Potters would see Davies as a replacement for the Premier-League bound Jack Butland.

According to our sources, a move to the South West is 'unlikely' however - so maybe Robins fans shouldn't get too excited about this possibility.

Only last week Lee Johnson explained that he was planning for a bold summer regarding recruitment.

"I think there's a chance of stagnation in the Championship next season because of finances and big clubs' positions," he said ahead of the Robins playing Hull City.

"Yes, we've got areas to improve but we're striving hard to do that.

"Plans are in place in almost every weak area to spend and improve and be one of the most well run clubs in the top two divisions," the Bristol City boss explained.
