Bristol City legend Trevor Tainton talks promotion to the First Division and the devastation of being part of the Ashton Gate Eight

The latest edition of Subs Bench has landed.

The popular  Made In Bristol show has arrived on Bristol Live with Richard Latham and Nigel Turner interviewing a host of former Bristol Rovers and Bristol City players from across the generations.

This week the pair speak to a man who can boost only two others have played more games for the Robins than him - midfielder Trevor Tainton.

Tainton is third on the club's list of all-time appearances, behind just Louis Carey and John Atyeo.

The former midfielder amassed 581 appearances over 15 years with the club and was a member of the 1976 squad that secured promotion to the top flight.

He remained with the club until 1982, when he became one of the Ashton Gate Eight, tearing up his contract to save City from financial turmoil but in doing so causing himself to be bankrupt.

He speaks openly and passionately about his time at the club and how he still love the Robins despite an ugly end to his time at BS3.
