Bristol City legend David Rodgers speaks about the 'Ashton Eight' and playing in the first division

In the latest episode of the Subs Bench, Bristol City legend David Rodgers sits down to talk about the 'Ashton Eight' and playing in the first division.

Rodgers made over 190 league appearances for the Robins between in the 1970s and 1980s.

He followed in the footsteps of his father Arnold, who also made over 190 appearances for the Robins, and left the club 1982 following several years of first division football.

Rodgers was part of the 'Ashton Eight', a group of eight players who, fearing Bristol City would have to fold, tore up their contracts to save the club.

He and seven other players ripped up their contracts on February 3 1982 with the club just minutes from folding.

It was the end of three years of turmoil for City, who went from finishing 13th in the first division three years earlier to battling for survival in the third tear of English football under former England boss Roy Hodgson.

In the interview, Rodgers opens up on this, playing for England schoolboys and more.
