Bristol City leading Celtic, Middlesbrough and Derby County in race for Leicester City defender - report

Bristol City are reportedly leading the race for Filip Benkovic.

Football Insider report that the Robins are front runners to take the Leicester City defender on loan, despite interest from Championship rivals Derby County and Middlesbrough.

Celtic are also thought to be keen on the 22-year-old centre-back, who played for the Hoops on loan last season.

Yet it is the Robins leading the race for Benkovic ahead of tomorrow's transfer deadline day.

The 6ft 4ins Croatian is set to depart the Foxes on loan this month in order for more first team football, having so far found game time at the King Power Stadium limited since his move from Dinamo Zagreb in 2018.

After letting Bailey Wright depart the club for Sunderland earlier this month, the Robins are keen to add more depth to their defence.

City are set to recall Zak Vyner from his loan at Aberdeen and have also taken an interest in Chelsea's Ethan Ampadu, currently on loan at RB Leipzig.

Yet with Chelsea not having a recall clause in Ampadu's loan, any move for the young defender relies on the goodwill of Leipzig, a club Robins boss Lee Johnson has good relations with.

However, Benkovic certainly seems to be the more attainable defender as it stands.
