Bristol City join Tranmere Rovers and Everton in dropping out of Leyton Orient FIFA tournament due to Sun sponsorship

Bristol City have become the latest club to drop out of Leyton Orient's FIFA tournament.

The League Two club came up with the idea of clubs taking part in an 'Ultimate Quaran-team' tournament on FIFA 20 - and it initially proved to be a wildly popular scheme.

Yet eyebrows were raised after a logo from the Sun's Dream Team website appeared at the bottom of one of Orient's Twitter posts about the tournament.

It initially led to Everton dropping out of the tournament, with Tranmere Rovers quickly following them due to Merseyside's long-held boycott of the Sun due to their coverage of the Hillsborough tragedy.

Orient later clarified that they had included Dream Team's logo due to the fact they were front-of-shirt sponsors of the club.

Bristol City had originally agreed to take part in the tournament, with popular playmaker Jamie Paterson offering his services to represent the Robins on the game.

Yet, after Sun's sponsorship became publicised, the Robins today announced that they too were pulling out of the tournament.

They tweeted: "Yeah, sorry guys, due to sponsorship involvement, we're out."

It proved a popular move for some on social media.

Chiddy: Sponsors getting involved over a fifa game? World gone nuts.

Harry: Up the City.

Luis: Proud.

Sam: Unlucky, Pato.

Tom: Well done, lads.

Jaxon: Well done, lads. It may just be a Fifa tournament, but at least you lot have some good principles.

Stoo: Great stuff Robins. Proud of you.

Jack: Class act, guys, proud of you.
