Bristol City join Derby County, Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town watching League One star - report

Bristol City are reported to have joined the growing list of admirers for AFC Wimbledon's Joe Pigott.

The Robins are credited as watching the League One star, along with Derby County, Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town, with Reading and Swansea City also said to have held a previous interest, according to TeamTalk.

The 26-year-old joined up at Plough Lane in the summer of 2018 and has proved an instant hit for the Dons since his move from Maidstone United.

He has now hit 33 goals in 103 games for Glyn Hodges' side, including six strikes so far this campaign, with another four assists to his name.

It is reported that six Championship sides are keeping tabs on the forward with the Robins being one of them, for a player who netted twice against Doncaster Rovers in their last league game.

Pigott has also taken the capatain's armband since heading to the Wombles, who currently sit

Pigott was due to be in action this weekend again against Barrow in the FA Cup but the first-round tie was called off with several of the club's staff self-isolating due to positive covid test results.

And their League One match between AFC Wimbledon and Wigan Athletic has also been postponed after a "number of positive" coronavirus tests in the Dons camp. The game scheduled for 14 November will now be subject to an investigation under English Football League rules.

Bristol City have a full complement of strikers currently but there are question marks over the longer-term future of Famara Diedhiou who is out of contract in the summer.

The 6ft2 Pigott could be a target for the Robins as they assess players elsewhere while looking for potential replacements if Didhiou moves on.

Dean Holden has explained previously that Diedhiou 'emphatically' wants to stay but no new contract has yet been agreed to extend the Senegalese international's stay in BS3.
