Bristol City join Brentford in poking fun at newly-relegated Fulham after Twitter gaffe

Bristol City have joined Brentford in mocking newly-relegated Fulham on social media.

The London side have returned to the Championship after a one-season stay in the Premier League, and a social media gaffe made after their promotion has come back to bite them.

It seems someone at Fulham made the ill-fated decision to unfollow Championship clubs on Twitter following their play-off final victory last year, presumably believing the club would be in the top flight for years to come after their £100m spending spree.

Lo and behold, the Cottagers were relegated straight back down to the second tier following a disastrous season where they finished 19th in the league with just 26 points.

To rub salt in the wounds, the West Londoners have now been forced to re-follow all their fellow Championship clubs, and their rival social media teams are inevitably revelling in their counterpart's misfortune.

Their neighbours Brentford tweeted a screenshot of the follow notification and wrote: "Thanks for the follow lads, welcome back!"

Bristol City's account then did the same and replied the following with a 'crying with laughter' emoji: "So it wasn't just us then."

Welcome back to the Championship, lads.
