Bristol City injury news ahead of QPR visiting Ashton Gate: Jay Dasilva blow and Bailey Wright doubt

Bristol City have several worries ahead of their upcoming league game against Queens Park Rangers this weekend.

Head coach Lee Johnson announced on Thursday the bad news regarding Jay Dasilva being out until 2020 - with his tibia fracture being worse then first feared.

City also have several other knocks as they look to gain a measure of revenge for their Carabao Cup ousting on Tuesday night.

Chiefly there are problems in defence, with the football gods taking little mercy, given that Bristol City did not replace Adam Webster in the transfer window and looks one centre-back short of a full squad.

Mark Ashton and Lee Johnson are analysing the possibilities there and a free transfer could arrive. Until then, they may need to shuffle the pack.

Bailey Wright

Rumours have begun surfacing that club captain Bailey Wright is the latest player to have fallen foul of a training ground injury.

And Bristol Live understands that Lee Johnson told the Senior Reds group that Wright is indeed out for several weeks on Thursday.

Our sources have corroborated that and the Aussie looks set to miss this weekend's game and possibly longer. No official confirmation has yet been given by the club at the time of writing.

Jay Dasilva

The left-back has been confirmed as being out for four to five months, which will see him out until well into the new year.

"Unfortunately it’s worse than first feared with a hefty fracture in the shin area," explained Johnson at the pre-QPR press conference.

"His tibia has quite a nasty stress fracture so we’ll do all we can."

Pedro Pereira is expected to return on the weekend after a dead leg though.

Korey Smith

The all-action midfielder is not set to return from his ankle problem until the New Year with Lee Johnson explaining to Bristol Live recently that if Smith was back by December that would be a bonus.

January 2020 is more realistic, and along with Dasilva, the Robins will be shorn of two key players until the second half of the campaign.

The club confirmed on Friday that 'the midfielder has had a metal plate removed to allow the wound in his foot to heel' in the latest stage of recovery.

Saikou Janneh

The exciting 19-year-old striker - who was in attendance to watch the U23s play against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday - is still out of contention as he recovers from knee surgery.

A good pre-season could mean that Janneh gets first team opportunities later this season once fit again.
