Bristol City in talks for prolific League Two star as Leeds United open negotiations over free transfer - reports

Bristol City have once again been linked with Reece Brown.

The Robins were said to be interested in the Forest Green Rovers star earlier this month and now Football Insider claims that they have opened talks with Forest Green about the player.

Leeds United are also said to be keen on the player and are believed to have opened up talks with the New Lawn outfit over a compensation package for him.

Brown is out of contract this summer but, at the age of 23, Rovers are entitled to compensation for him should he opt to play football elsewhere.

Forest Green boss Mark Cooper confirmed earlier this season that Brown has already turned down numerous new contracts  - and Brown was listed as being offered a new deal on the club's retained list earlier this week.

Brown plays as a wide forward and he scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists to help Forest Green to the play-offs this season.

He has been at the club for just two seasons, joining from Birmingham City, which could well limit the amount of compensation a club would have to pay for him - yet a Leeds source told Football Insider that both clubs were worried that the interest in Brown would bump his price up.

The Robins' interest in Brown would make sense and continue a pattern they have of signing young lower-league players under Lee Johnson.

Earlier this week, the Robins wrapped up their first signing of the summer, bringing in Robbie Cundy from Bath City, whilst they have also been heavily linked with Sammie Szmodics from Colchester United.

Last summer also saw the Robins secure Hakeeb Adelakun and Mo Eisa from lower-league clubs.
