Bristol City have competition from Millwall in their pursuit of £3m Barnsley striker - reports

Millwall have emerged as Bristol City's chief rivals for Barnsley striker Kieffer Moore as Lee Johnson looks to bolster his attacking options for next season.

The Daily Mail report that the Lions have entered the race for the 6ft 5ins frontman following the departure of Lee Gregory to Stoke City and Steve Morison to Shrewsbury Town.

Moore, 26, who has been training with the Wales national team, is valued at £3m and has been on City's radar for months.

As Bristol Live has previously reported, Robins head coach wants to bring in Moore and Arsenal starlet Eddie Nketiah on loan to complement Famara Diedhiou and teenage forwards Antoine Semenyo and Saikou Janneh.

Moore scored 19 goals last season to earn Barnsley promotion and is an attractive proposition for both Johnson and Lions manager Neil Harris due to his ability to play as a lone frontman.

He particularly stood out during a performance for the Tykes against City at Oakwell in March, 2018 as he completely dominated centre-backs Bailey Wright and Nathan Baker.

Moore scored Barnsley's first goal in a 2-2 draw and impressed with his mixture of physicality, both on the ground and in the air, work rate and clever use of the ball.

That display coupled with his scoring record in two of the last three seasons and Johnson's excellent contacts at Barnsley, who have provided glowing reports on his character and temperament, have led to him becoming a key target this summer.

The Torquay-born striker is under contract until 2021 meaning Barnsley will hope to drive his price up even further with the knowledge two Championship clubs are competing for his signature.

One trump card Millwall could possess is that they can guarantee Moore he will be their frontline No9 as Tom Elliott is the only other forward on their books, whereas at City there will be a greater sense of competition for places.
