Bristol City handed boost over proposed FIFA changes to transfer rules

Bristol City have been handed a boost with the clarification of FIFA's proposed changes to transfer rules.

Last year it was reported that the world governing body had planned to limit the number of players leaving a club on loan each season .

It was a move to avoid major clubs stockpiling talent, with the likes of Chelsea sending huge amounts of players on loan each season.

However, there were concerns that the measures could impact lower-league clubs like the Robins.

City regularly send players out on loan to help them get first-team experience, with 14 players currently serving temporary spells at other clubs.

With FIFA's proposed limit of six players being allowed out from one club, it presented a potential issue for City.

However, The New York Times reports that clarifications have been offered over the proposed rule change ahead of a vote on Wednesday.

Rather than have the rule apply to all players, it has been clarified that it will instead just be used to govern non-club-trained players above the age of 21.

The limit will be set at eight from 2021/22 before dropping to six the following year.

In the case of the Robins, it should mean they are well set to continue their method of loaning out young players.

Currently, there are five non-club-trained players over 21 that are out on loan at other clubs.

These are Robbie Cundy, who came through Oxford United's system and is currently on loan at Torquay United; Jamie Paterson, who came through at Walsall and is currently at Derby County; Rory Holden, who came through at Derry City and is currently at Walsall; Matty Taylor, who returned to boyhood club Oxford this summer, and Liam Walsh, who came through at Everton and is currently at Coventry.
