Bristol City forward Andreas Weimann explains his red hot form against the big boys

Bristol City have relished playing the better clubs in the Championship of late.

Disappointing draws at home to Wigan and Ipswich Town have been surrounded by the fine victories over Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion.

And central to those wins has been the outstanding form of Andi Weimann, whose four goals and an assist in the last three games are seeing him end the campaign in the rich form that he started it when he hit five in his first five matches for new club Bristol City.

The livewire striker now has a thoroughly respectable 10 goals for the season and five assists - a nice tally for the summer signing from Derby County.

"I always try and get in front of defenders in the box, and Browny headed it back in there and I managed to get free and flick it in there" he told Bristol Live last night of his latest goal-scoring escapades.

"The start of the match was brilliant - we really hit them with our pressing. And the first goal, Marlon nicked it and I played a one-two with Browny and he finished it really well.

"They've got good attacking players and we knew that before the game. We thought we'd need a few goals to get a win and luckily enough we managed to hold out at the end," explained the 27-year-old versatile attacker.

So how is that foot after Aden Flint stood on it a week ago, particularly as it seemed like it was broken at first?

"It's alright. It's a bit swollen still but it's okay," said Weimann.

As to the game last night, that could prove to be a pivotal victory so says Bristol City's no.14.

"It's been a really big 10 days or so for us and it was a really big win tonight.

"Now we go to Villa Park with a lot of confidence and hopefully we can keep this run going.

"It's looking good [the race for the top six], it's in our hands and that's all we can ask for," he said.

On to the Villa on Saturday when the Robins will be cheered on by 2,602 travelling away fans - with the prize within sight.
