Bristol City fans back decision to sack Lee Johnson but pay tribute to departing manager

Bristol City fans were in a reflective mood following the dismissal of Lee Johnson.

The Robins announced shortly after their defeat to Cardiff City that Johnson had been relieved of his duties as manager.

After being appointed manager in early 2016 and steering the club away from relegation, Johnson established the Robins in the Championship and improved their position every year he was in charge.

Yet City failed to make the final step into the play-off positions and currently sit a disappointing 12th place, nine points off the top six.

It has left fans backing the decision but also keen to acknowledge the good work that Johnson did in removing the threat of relegation from the Robins.

Rob: Absolutely banging the drum that he should go but still a bit sad. Never personal, thanks for your efforts, Lee.

Nick: Sadly it was inevitable come the end, sad to see him go as I like the guy but right decision I think...

Ben: He won’t get the credit he deserves but the only reason we are having debates about if we are going up/ in playoffs is because of him which is remarkable considering where we were when he started! A good manager and wish him well but it is definitely the right time for a change!

Exiled Robin: The sad thing is there will be much elation about this decision, which is quite sad given everything LJ has put in and done for us. The most established at this level in 40 years is no mean achievement, got so close to proper success.

Ben: Before everyone gets on his back, Johnson has turned us from a team at the bottom of the Championship to a team 8th-12th. Thanks for everything you have done, but for the club to go to the next level, a change was needed.

Harry: Wish him all the best. Considering timings, etc. and our season essentially finishing today, it's the right time.

James: Thanks for all you've done, Lee! Better to focus on the better times than the downtimes.

Bracey: Thanks for everything Lee. We will remember that you took us from almost certain relegation under Cotterill and have took us to some great places. In 2020 you've been sacked for not guaranteeing playoffs which in 2016 would have been a luxury. We won't forget the great work.

GWATS: People being happy is completely justified given the recent run of form but can we at least give him some credit for what he's done at this club. At some points we've played some decent football, and I mean we didn't get relegated we had some decent finishes and of course the Man United match.

Ben: Thank you lee for getting us to where we are but unfortunately you couldn’t take us further.
