Bristol City charged by FA after controversial Aston Villa defeat

Bristol City have been issued with an FA charge following their defeat to Aston Villa.

The Robins have been charged with failing to ensure their players behaved in an orderly fashion during the 2-1 loss.

It relates to a controversial penalty decision, in which Jack Hunt was adjudged to have fouled Connor Hourihane by referee Scott Duncan early on in the second half.

The Robins' players were upset with the decision, with a number surrounding the official, but the club have now been charged for their behaviour.

An FA spokesman said: "Bristol City FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20 following the EFL Championship fixture against Aston Villa on Saturday.

"It is alleged the club failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 53rd minute. The club has until Tuesday [23/04/2019] to respond."

If the Robins are found guilty, they will face a fine.

They already face a fine of £5,000 for having six played booked in the game.

Post-match, Hunt shared his disappointment with the penalty decision on Twitter.

How a former Bristol City star was once held up at gunpoint in crazy training ground incident

He said: "First time in career that I’ve gave away a penalty, and what can I say. For it to happen in that manner is really disappointing.

"I understand everyone is human and people make mistakes but yesterday was one after another by the officials and we feel very hard done by.

"The linesman said I pulled CH down and the referee said I pushed him. I guess you win some and lose some but in a big game like that we just want a fair chance to see who would have come out on top without an official's mistake."

Centre-back Tomas Kalas also posted a message on Instagram where he joked he was still looking for the referee while fellow defender Adam Webster added: "things never went for us."

In a cruel twist of fate Duncan has been appointed as the fourth official for Bristol City's Easter Monday trip to Hillsborough to take on Sheffield Wednesday.
