Bristol City eyeing midfielder targeted by Ipswich Town and Portsmouth as Blackburn Rovers line up bid - report

Bristol City are eyeing an Australian international as they look to bolster their midfield.

It has been a quiet summer at Ashton Gate so far in terms of incomings, although the club has been linked with a number of players in the press.

The latest is Sydney FC's Brandon O'Neill, who is reportedly a target for the Robins as well as Portsmouth and Ipswich Town, while Blackburn Rovers are said to be preparing a £350,000 offer.

The 25-year-old defensive midfielder made his Socceroos debut against South Korea earlier this month but also holds a British passport, according to the Daily Mail.

Last week Bristol City were linked with O'Neill's teammate and compatriot, goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne.

O'Neill scored three times and laid on eight assists in all competitions last season, earning the international call-up.

Something of a set-piece specialist, he likes to get forward and is not averse to having a pop from range.

He has made 101 appearances of the Sydney club since joining them in 2015 having come through the ranks at Perth Glory.

Josh Brownhill has been linked with a move away from Ashton Gate, as has Adam Webster, who can operate in midfield, while Korey Smith faces another long injury lay-off, so this is a move that might make sense.

However, the Robins evidently face stiff competition from Blackburn, Ipswich and Portsmouth - although they might fancy themselves as favourites out of that bunch.
