Bristol City eye up move for Derby County and Middlesbrough target after Southampton link - report

Bristol City have reportedly identified a replacement for Josh Brownhill, should the long-serving midfielder leave during January.

Brownhill has been linked with a move to the Premier League after a positive first half of the season.

Burnley, Bournemouth and Southampton have all been linked with the Robins midfielder, joining Sheffield United and Brighton & Hove Albion, who have both kept tabs on Brownhill since the summer.

The Mail recently reported that Burnley are keen on securing a midfielder in January, with Brownhill being one of the options they are looking at.

Bristol Live understands that Brownhill is committed to seeing the season out at Ashton Gate at a minimum - but reports elsewhere say that the Robins have identified a potential replacement for him if need be.

Team Talk report that City are considering a move for Peterborough United star Marcus Maddison should they lose Brownhill in January.

Maddison has previously been linked with the Robins, although it is unclear how concrete these links are.

Interest in Maddison is high, with Derby County and Middlesbrough both also said to be keen on the League One star.

Maddison is said to have a release clause beneath £2.5m, which is well in the Robins' budget.

The 26-year-old has been in fine form for Posh this season, netting 10 goals and creating eight more in 21 appearances in all competitions.
